Highlights:
Scottvest has always made really cool clothing and jackets for the technology gurus in the world. From hats to hoodies to coats, Scottvest has tried to please the tech person on the go. So what about pants?
Well let us tell you about pants.. their SeV Lounge Pants.
Design and Functionality
I could see immediately after slipping these on that the main focus of the pants was for comfort. Of course, you could probably figure that out yourself by the name of the product, Lounge Pants. Anyway, I was skeptical about how these pants, when filled with a PDA, iPod Video and a few other gadgets (like a DS and PSP), could possibly maintain their comfort, while also maintaining their style.
First off, the pants are comfortable when filled with gadgets. The soft cotton design allows for so much padding that it's a shame clothing companies haven't taken pointers from Scottvest yet about comfort and not physically feeling when a large technological device is laying in your pocket on your leg. Of course, it's good for Scottvest because you can't feel a damn thing when you insert a PDA into your pocket and sit down, hell you can barely notice it's in there visually. That's good design and something that Scottvest takes pride in. What's the use of having clothing for technology if it's uncomfortable to have? No use at all.
A second positive about these lounge pants, outside of comfort, is the amount of pockets you get with the pants. There are literally pockets within pockets. They're deep pockets to, which means that you can store a lot of things in the lounge pants. The first night I had these on, I kept pulling out cards that described what type of objects could fit into the pockets. I pulled out one that said 'Handcuffs' (it was a joke, but in all honesty, I bet they would fit fine). The pockets were so deep in the pants that when I put in my wallet, I literally couldn't feel it. That's not because I'm poor, but rather the pockets are so deep and the material is very soft.
Another bright spot, mainly because of the material the pants are made out of, is the ability to get air through to your legs. When I was reviewing these suckers it was 93 degrees outside. Almost 100% humidity to boot. It's typical summer weather for Kentucky, usually uncomfortable. The pants breathed perfectly. While there was some heat retained, the pants had enough air circulation where I wasn't literally sweating my ass off. Any other pants of this nature and I'm sweating up a leg storm. I was really quite impressed with this portion of the pants.
Value
For $79.99 I think the deal is good. I have never experienced so much comfort from material and never experienced having electronics (or a wallet for that matter) in my pants and not noticing it. I could only hope that Scottvest makes a line of shorts that do the same thing so that I can save my knees from getting horrible bruises from my car keys. I would pay good money for that.
Overall Comment
So the design of the pants is great, despite the draw-string issue. I think the functionality is right on par with what Scottvest is advertising and for anyone on the go and needing electronic space in your pocket, you can be sure that the Lounge Pants will provide that. I can't wait to check these out in the winter time. I'll write a follow-up when the weather starts dropping. See you in November with another Lounge Pants review. Until then, check these out, it's worth the time and money.
